About Me

Current Position and Experience

I am currently serving as a Mathematics teacher at Seethadevi Girls' College, Kandy, Sri Lanka, with 10 years of teaching experience, including 3 years as a Bilingual Education (BE) teacher. This extensive experience has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of student needs, curriculum implementation, and bilingual teaching strategies, preparing me to create meaningful learning environments for diverse learners.

Professional Identity

I am a passionate Mathematics teacher and Bilingual Education practitioner committed to fostering classrooms where every child feels supported, capable, and inspired. My professional journey has shaped me into a reflective, adaptable, and innovative educator who integrates evidence-based strategies and meaningful learning experiences to enhance both content knowledge and student engagement.

Bilingual Education Approach

As a bilingual educator, I strive to make Mathematics accessible and meaningful in English while respecting and leveraging students' home languages. I implement CLIL strategies, translanguaging, scaffolding, sentence frames, visual aids, and collaborative tasks to empower learners with varied language proficiencies. This approach ensures that all students can participate confidently, comprehend concepts deeply, and communicate effectively in a bilingual setting.

Philosophical Foundation

My teaching philosophy is grounded in Buddhist principles, including compassion (karuṇā), mindfulness (sati), wisdom (paññā), and moral conduct (sīla). These values guide my practice, enabling me to nurture students who are not only mathematically capable but also emotionally balanced, ethically aware, and socially responsible. I aim to cultivate learners who approach knowledge with both clarity of thought and kindness of heart.

Teaching Practices

I focus on fostering curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. My lessons are designed to:

Connect Mathematics to real-life situations and sustainability

Incorporate hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and reflective exercises

Promote cooperation, gratitude, and resilience among learners

This ensures that learning is meaningful, engaging, and holistic, supporting both cognitive and attitudinal development.

Reflective Growth

I continuously reflect on my teaching practice using peer and mentor feedback, classroom observations, and self-assessment. This reflective approach allows me to refine strategies, address individual learner needs, and enhance educational outcomes consistently, contributing to both my professional growth and the success of my students.

My Goal as a Teacher

My ultimate goal is to guide students with kindness, challenge them through meaningful learning, and inspire them to become thoughtful, capable, and responsible individuals. By integrating Mathematics, bilingual pedagogy, Buddhist principles, and sustainability awareness, I strive to create a classroom environment that nurtures both the mind and the heart of every learner.
