Summary

The journey through the PGDE in Bilingual Education at PGIE, Open University has been transformative, shaping me into a more confident, reflective, and innovative Bilingual Mathematics teacher. Over the course of this programme, I have developed a deeper understanding of my learners' linguistic, cognitive, and socio-emotional needs, enabling me to design lessons that are both meaningful and inclusive. My growth is evident in my ability to implement CLIL strategies, translanguaging, scaffolding, and technology-enhanced learning, which have significantly improved student engagement, understanding, and confidence in Mathematics.

Through this journey, I have recognised my key strengths: effective bilingual communication, thoughtful lesson planning, use of modern digital tools, and the ability to guide collaborative learning. I have also become more reflective, analytical, and adaptive in addressing learners' mixed abilities and diverse language proficiencies. However, I acknowledge ongoing challenges, such as further refining differentiated instruction, expanding innovative teaching resources, and enhancing assessment strategies to better capture both language and content learning. My plan is to continually research, experiment, and integrate new pedagogical approaches to overcome these areas for improvement.

The PGDE has not only strengthened my teaching skills but also transformed my professional identity. I now approach teaching as a holistic, values-driven practice, blending Mathematics knowledge, bilingual pedagogy, and Buddhist principles of mindfulness, compassion, and ethical conduct. It has reinforced the importance of reflective practice, continuous professional development, and collaboration with peers, mentors, and resource persons.

Looking forward, my vision is to inspire learners to become confident, responsible, and curious problem-solvers who can apply Mathematics meaningfully in life. I aspire to lead innovations in bilingual education, mentor future teachers, and contribute to the development of inclusive, engaging, and sustainable learning environments. Ultimately, this PGDE journey has equipped me not just to teach, but to transform lives, one learner at a time.
